Make rehab sustainable with occupational therapy

Life isn’t normal during recovery, and patients seriously have to adapt. Our occupational therapists (OTs) are experts in routine-building, and they’ll help you minimize symptoms during everyday life. We’ll even help your work or school understand what’s going on.

Concussions disrupt your life and routines

Your life may look a little different during recovery, and our team of OTs will support you all the way to better. They’ll help you educate employers and educators about your condition and needs, as well as advise you on adapting your home routines. (Both are important.)

Concussion patients often experience memory problems and other cognitive difficulties post-injury. It can be unnerving to experience these symptoms—but you’re not alone. Our OTs will also work with you to rehabilitate your brain’s functions with cognitive exercises that focus on improving time management, memory and organization. That’s how you get your life back.

Symptom Management: OTs help identify and manage concussion-related symptoms, such as dizziness, headaches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. They can teach strategies to cope with or minimize these symptoms during daily tasks.

Cognitive Rehabilitation: Concussions can affect memory, attention, and problem-solving abilities. OTs provide exercises and techniques to improve cognitive functioning, such as memory aids or strategies to enhance focus

Return to Work/School: An OT will evaluate how a concussion is impacting the individual’s ability to work or attend school and recommend adjustments, such as modified schedules or environmental changes, to ensure a safe and gradual return.

Home and Daily Life Modifications: They may suggest changes at home or in daily routines to improve safety and comfort, such as lighting adjustments, ergonomic setups, or pacing techniques to avoid overexertion.

Education and Prevention: OTs educate patients and their families about concussion recovery, including the importance of rest and gradual reintroduction to activities. They also provide information on preventing future concussions.

“From the minute of walking through the door at ACC, I felt like I was being taken care of. I never thought I would be able to live symptom free and I never understood that concussion is a treatable injury. Now, I honestly feel like I’m healthier than before I hit my head.”
